Clinical Assistant Professor 10-month, Counseling School and Educational Psychology, Graduate School of Education

Buffalo, New York ~ September 14, 2022

The Graduate School of Education (GSE) at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, invites applications for one full-time, non-tenure, Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Rehabilitation Counseling Program, within the Department of Counseling, School, and Educational Psychology (CSEP). The GSE is committed to fostering equity, diversity, justice, and inclusion principles through an engaged community of scholars who prioritize research, teaching, practice, and community action that address educational, economic, social, and health disparities. Our CSEP Department includes a distinguished faculty of researchers, professional teachers, and thought leaders who strive for innovation in training and field practice to have enduring impact on the lives of individuals and communities. The Rehabilitation Counseling Program offers a practitioner-focused Master of Science degree fully accredited by The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
We are seeking motivated, collaborative faculty, eager to engage with community members, and whose teaching, research, and service directly engage questions of practice related to how individuals with disabilities, particularly those from minoritized groups, achieve independence, inclusion, employment, and health. Priority status will be given to scholars who demonstrate innovative approaches in transforming existing educational, work, social, and health systems to ensure the well-being of people from minoritized groups and individuals with disabilities. Ideal candidates are able to make clear connections between their teaching, research, practice, and service, and the intersectional needs of people of color with disabilities. We are committed to cultivating a diverse faculty environment and welcome applicants with diverse identities.
As a program, we fundamentally believe in equity of opportunity, social justice advocacy, and providing holistic, integrative supports to individuals with disabilities. We emphasize rehabilitation counselor skill development through innovation in clinical supervision and practical experiences in community-based settings. We have particular interest in early-career faculty who have a record of practice in counselor supervision, culturally-responsive interventions, vocational rehabilitation, and/or rehabilitation in integrated behavioral-health settings. There is potential for secondary affiliation in the Mental Health Counseling Program and individuals with experience in mental health and substance-use rehabilitation in community settings are encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates must be eligible to serve as core faculty in CACREP accredited rehabilitation counselor training programs. We are looking for new faculty who have aptitude and/or experience in graduate teaching, student advisement, and counselor supervision. Our program includes traditional campus classes and fully-online format options, so applicants should have interest and ability in providing high quality distance instruction. Appointments are for a ten-month academic year beginning in the Fall 2023.
