Maintenance Supervisor 1, Mechanical Equipment

Buffalo, New York ~ November 15, 2021

In this role the incumbent will be responsible for all duties associated with the role of a Supervisor in the Mechanical Equipment shop. This position requires the candidate to delegate responsibilities, develop an effective workforce, promote teamwork, and provide daily direction based upon departmental policy guidelines. 
Duties include:
  • Ensuring University Infrastructure is in good order, by planning work assignments and actively supervising the workforce and the quality of services provided
  • Overseeing safe work practices of the staff and exercise good judgements relating to work zone safety
  • Providing oral and written detailed instructions for task performance
  • Coordinating and overseeing the training of personnel
  • Maintaining records, preparing reports and composing correspondence relative to the work
  • Identifying, evaluating, and forecasting for upcoming mechanical equipment projects
  • Coordinating activities with other shops involved in multi-trades work orders or projects
  • This is a first-line Supervisory position that directs, coordinates and prioritizes a variety of installation, repair, and maintenance tasks
  • Championing a culture of safety, and arrange for ongoing staff training
  • Creating a team-environment where all members can excel 
  • Handling sensitive and confidential employee issues including performance appraisals and consistent, recurring one-on-one meetings with employees
  • Responding to after-hours and weekend emergencies in the event of significant equipment failure
To be successful in this role, the incumbent has to be a strong communicator and be able to plan and adjust schedules based on priorities. The candidate will be responsible for fostering pride in maintaining the campus to the highest departmental standards.
