Make the First Days Count -- Tips for a Successful Job Start

You impressed them with your resume, wowed them at the interview and sealed the deal at the follow-up interview. Congratulations, you landed a great job. Here’s how to make sure you keep that positive momentum rolling as you head into the first days on the new job. Confirm when and where you should arrive and to whom you should report. Show up on time. Dress professionally, even if office policy is Casual Dress. Worn out jeans, micro-minis and flip-flops are never a good idea.

Bring important information for insurance forms, withholdings and 401k. Find out what type of resources are available to you

Get connected, quickly. Make sure your computer is connected, email and phone services are hooked up and postal mail is confirmed. Get on the routing list for appropriate reports and announcements.

Introduce yourself to those in the office. Make an effort to say a brief hello to your co-workers, share a cup of coffee or lunch with those who can show you the ropes. Learn names of co-workers and administrative staff as soon as possible. Most importantly, show your excitement about being there and get on the right track to a successful job start.
